CKD Blansko to refurbish Slovakia’s 25.5-MW Horna Streda

Slovakia utility Slovenske Elektrarne has awarded a 34 million koruny (US$1.5 million) contract to CKD Blansko to refurbish the 25.5-MW Horna Streda hydroelectric project on Slovakia’s Vah River.

CKD Blansko, of the Czech Republic, said it won the contract in bidding for general repair of Horna Streda, which was commissioned in 1954. It said the agreement would be signed in November.

The supplier said unit assembly and disassembly is to be carried out by Slovenske Elektrarne. CKD Blansko is to perform repair of the entire generating unit. Horna Streda has two Kaplan units. The work is to be completed in February 2009.
