Chilean generator Colbun has filed an application for water rights approval for the 140-MW San Pedro hydroelectric project proposed for Valdivia Province in Chile’s Region X.
Business News Americas reported Colbun plans to begin environmental impact studies as soon as it receives water rights approval from Chile’s water management agency, DGA.
Colbun’s application proposes building a dam on the San Pedro River creating a 284-hectare reservoir holding 30 million cubic meters of water. The application, published in the national register, Diario Oficial, said no agricultural lands would be flooded.
The generator hopes to bring the plant on line by 2010.
