CEO of Manitoba Hydro to speak during HydroVision International keynote

Kelvin Shepherd, president and chief executive officer of Manitoba Hydro, is the second confirmed keynote speaker for HydroVision International 2016.

HydroVision International is being held July 26-29 at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minneapolis, Minn. The keynote session takes place Tuesday, July 26 from 3-5 pm and is open to all attendees.

Shepherd joined Manitoba Hydro in December 2015. The company has close ties to Minnesota in that it is working through the details of an agreement to export hydroelectric power to Minnesota Power and already has export agreements in place with Xcel Energy and Wisconsin Public Service. In addition, the corporation exports electricity to other Canadian provinces.

Manitoba Hydro is a Crown Corporation and the province’s major energy utility, serving more than 555,000 electrical customers and 272,000 natural gas customers. Nearly all of the electricity Manitoba Hydro generates comes from hydropower facilities.

In addition, Jose Zayas will unveil the U.S. Department of Energy’s long-awaited Hydropower Vision during the HydroVision International keynote session. Zayas is office director for the Wind and Water Power Technologies Office in the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.

The Hydropower Vision is intended to establish the analytical basis for an ambitious roadmap to usher in a new era of growth in sustainable domestic hydropower over the next half century.

Other speakers during the keynote session include representatives of the National Hydropower Association, Canadian Hydropower Association and International Hydropower Association.
