Canadian utility Manitoba Hydro seeks bids to construct two shore stations interconnecting two hydroelectric projects in Manitoba. Bids are due April 23.
The utility awarded a contract in March to BBE Hydro Constructors Limited Partnership to build the 695-MW Keeyask hydroelectric plant on the Lower Nelson River. Manitoba Hydro, which completed the 200-MW Wuskwatim hydro project on the Burntwood River in 2012, recently signed a memorandum to investigate sale of up to 600 MW of hydropower to U.S. cooperative Great River Energy.
Manitoba Hydro said it now seeks installation of shore stations intended to interconnect 600-volt main output power, 600-volt auxiliary supply power and low-voltage control and communications cables from a 600-VAC, 800-kW/1,000-kVa rated semi-mobile diesel generator to the station service power system of two hydroelectric stations. Each shore station is to be installed adjacent to a 300-kVa resistive load bank, supplied and installed by others, for testing purposes.
