Newfoundland &Labrador Hydro seeks proposals by June 29 for engineering studies of the 36-MW Island Pond hydroelectric project in Newfoundland.
The utility seeks to supplement 1988 and 1997 studies with new engineering studies, site surveys, geotechnical investigations, and schedules and estimates. The contractor also would prepare a project and construction schedule, and estimate the project’s capital cost. Work is to be complete by the end of December.
The site is 50 kilometers south of Millertown, within the Bay d’Espoir hydroelectric system on the island of Newfoundland. Island Pond would use flows from Meelpaeg Reservoir to utilize 25 meters of head between the reservoir and Crooked Lake. It is expected to generate an average of 188 gigawatt-hours annually.

Proposals, to the attention of the “Manager of Supply Chain Management, RFP for Engineering Studies for Island Pond Hydroelectric Development,” are due to the address below by 3 p.m. June 29.
