Bolivia seeks EPC construction of two-plant, 200-MW Miguillas hydro project

Bolivia utility Empresa Nacional de Electricidad (ENDE) invites expressions of interest to construct the two-plant, 200-MW Miguillas hydroelectric project in La Paz Department. A site visit is scheduled July 1, with an information meeting July 7 and responses due August 5.

Earlier this month, Banco Central de Bolivia lent US$450 million to ENDE and Bolivia’s Ministerio Hidrocarburos y Energia for construction of Miguillas, which includes two hydro plants, 116-MW Palillada and 84-MW Umapalca. ENDE also has called for bids by July 21 to construct the two-plant, 124-MW San Jose hydroelectric project. Bolivia’s special purpose company Empresa Misicuni took bids June 12 to resume construction of the dam of the 80-MW Misicuni multipurpose hydro project.

ENDE now seeks expressions of interest from firms to construct the Miguillas project on an engineering-procurement-construction (EPC) basis in Bolivia’s Inquisivi Province. Work is to include design, supply and construction of intakes, dams, regulation reservoirs, access roads, conduits, pipes, tunnels, valve chambers, surge tanks, penstocks, two powerhouses with a total of six horizontal Pelton turbine-generators, two substations, hydro-mechanical equipment, controls and protection.

The work is expected to require 1,440 days at a cost of US$400 million.
