International hydro technology manufacturer Alstom was awarded an Excellent Supplier award by the China Three Gorges Corporation in recognition of its work on the Xiangjiaba hydropower project.
The award reflects Alstom’s “performance in contract execution, excellent quality and on-time delivery of hydro turbine generator units and auxiliary equipment,” the company said.
Alstom designed and manufactured four 800 MW generating units for the 6,400 project at its plant in Tianjin, China, at an average rate of one every four months. The four units entered commercial operation between November 2012 and this past June.
The turbine units were each coupled with an 889 MVA generator, making them the most powerful hydroelectric generating units in the world, according to Alstom.
“This award is an important recognition for the dedication of Alstom’s team towards our customers and the cutting-edge technology that drives Alstom clean power solutions,” Alstom Hydro China general manager Fabio Nossaes said. “We are very proud to be part of this great project.”
Xiangjiaba was recognized by the editors of Hydro Review sister-publications Power Engineering Magazine and RenewableEnergyWorld.com as their 2013 Hydro Project of the Year this past November.
Xiangjiaba is the third largest hydroelectric facility in China, trailing only the 22,500-MW Three Gorges and 13,860-MW Xiluodu hydropower projects.
