Exelon Power Team selects TIBCO technology to integrate power marketing system

HOUSTON, April 11, 2002 — TIBCO Software Inc. announced that Exelon Power Team, the wholesale power marketing and energy-based financial-trading division of Exelon, has selected TIBCO technology as the integration platform for its enterprise applications and systems.

With the help of TIBCO ActiveEnterpriseà¢â€ž-, Exelon Power Team is able to integrate its disparate systems and applications, resulting in streamlined performance and significant cost savings. This announcement was made today in conjunction with TIBCO’s annual Energy Conference and is illustrative of TIBCO’s continued dedication to providing business solutions for the energy industry.

Exelon Power Team relies on a number of different, often incompatible systems and applications to meet its daily business needs. TIBCO’s end-to-end enterprise integration solutions create a corporate-wide infrastructure, linking Exelon’s scheduling systems, financial trading and risk management systems, generating plant schedulers and settlement tools.

TIBCO software will allow Exelon Power Team to control the flow of messaging between systems and automate business process workflows, to overall improved health of its entire business infrastructure.

“Exelon Power Team markets the power of one of the largest generation portfolios in the country. It is critical that all of our business systems work in concert to provide us with the most accurate and up-to-date data,” said Michael Erdlen, vice president of information technology at Exelon. “The TIBCO solution serves as the intelligent glue holding together all of our systems. This glue is required to ensure that relevant data is passed immediately and accurately from one system to another — and sometimes back again — before it is needed by the business users.”

By providing the key to connect all major systems in the Exelon Power Team network, TIBCO ActiveEnterprise affords visibility to real-time data and enables managers and employees to make more informed and intelligent decisions. Exelon Power Team will now begin to realize the benefits of automated business processes and improved information sharing, to significant cost and time savings.

“Exelon needed a highly strategic solution that would streamline its data handling, minimize manual business processes and be scalable enough to allow for growth,” said Murat Sonmez, senior vice president for TIBCO Software. “We created an enterprise architecture for Exelon that would not only integrate all of its existing systems, but that would also provide flexibility for new systems and applications that may be added to the network in the future.”
