EPRI announces new members for board of directors

PALO ALTO, Calif. 4/19/12 (PennWell) — The Electric Power and Research Institute has two new members on its board of directors: Nicholas K. Akins and Kimberly S. Green.

Akins, president and chief executive officer of American Electric Power, will serve as chair on the board, while Green, executive vice president and chief generation officer for the Tennessee Valley Authority, will serve as vice chair.

“The guidance that Nick and Kim will provide, along with their keen belief that technology provides the best solution to meet the challenges faced by the industry, makes them well-suited to lead our board,” says Michael W. Howard, EPRI president and chief executive officer.

Akins was elected president of AEP in December 2010 after previously serving as its vice president of generation from 2006 to 2010.

Green has most recently worked as TVA’s group president for strategy and external relations, though she has also served as chief financial officer, executive vice president of financial services and chief risk officer.

The two are joined on EPRI’s board by Anthony F. Earley Jr., chairman, CEO, and president of PG&E Corporation; Benjamin G.S. Fowke III, chairman, CEO and president of Xcel; Craig S. Ivey, president of Con Ed; James H. Lash, president of FirstEnergy generation and chief nuclear officer; Tom Mitchell, president and CEO of Ontario Power Generation; and Brian Dames, CEO of Eskom.

EPRI recently released an internet-based assessment tool that shows where American electricity comes from.
