VA Tech Hydro to supply pipe to 480-MW Limberg 2

Verbund Austrian Hydro Power has awarded a 34.4 million euro (US$43.6 million) contract to VA Tech Hydro GmbH to supply steel pipe for the 480-MW Limberg 2 pumped-storage project in Austria.

Verbund plans to build an underground powerhouse as part of the Glockner Kaprun scheme, near the 240-MW Kaprun project. The pumped-storage project will employ the existing storage reservoirs of Mooserboden and Wasserfallboden.

The first unit is to be commissioned in 2011, with construction to be complete in 2012.

Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation previously received a contract to supply two 240-MW pump-turbines and governor equipment, while Poyry Energy business group received a contract for detailed design and site supervision. (HNN 7/5/06)
