U.K. firm completes study for refinance of Turkey’s 100-MW Yamula

Renewable energy engineering consultant SgurrEnergy of the United Kingdom has completed a technical due diligence assessment of the 100-MW Yamula hydroelectric project in Turkey’s Kayseri Province.

The Scottish firm joined power and project finance specialist PowerConsult International to provide detailed technical and operational advice to a consortium of London-based international investment banks. The group is developing a multi-million-dollar refinancing package for the hydro project.

SgurrEnergy engineers performed inspections and reviews of equipment, maintenance regime, and operation and performance history as well as design and construction assessments.

Development of hydro provides a long life renewable energy option which can provide numerous other benefits to the electrical network, SgurrEnergy senior consultant Geoff Hoffheinz said. SgurrEnergy’s knowledge and experience on large-scale hydro projects such as in this case enables us to offer technical services for international investment banks worldwide.

Owner and operator of Yamula is Kayseri Elektrik Uretim Sanayi ve Ticaret, which is owned by Ayen Energy, operator of the 9.6-MW Kisik and 84-MW Camlica hydropower projects in Turkey. Kayseri Elektrik awarded a US$17.9 million contract in 2003 to units of General Electric to supply turbines, generators, and additional equipment and services to the project.
