Eidsiva Vannkraft AS has awarded a NOK657 million (US$81 million) contract to Skanska to build the 85-MW Nedre Otta hydropower plant in Norway, according to a Skanska press release.
Work involves about 12,000 meters of tunnels, construction of the power station and transformer hall in the mountain, and concrete work around the intake, outflow and portal.
Nedre Otta, in the municipalities Sel and Vaga, will use the existing intake dam at the 12.5-MW Eidefossen hydropower plant. Water will travel through a tunnel from the intake to the new power plant. It is expected to produce about 315 GWh annually.
Construction work is scheduled to begin in October 2016, and the project is expected to be complete in spring 2020.
Skanska Norway focuses on construction and civil engineering operations and has about 4,000 employees.
