Six utilities on Forbes’ list of America’s Best Employers for Women

Business Women

Forbes released its third annual ranking of the best employers for women in the U.S., and six utilities with hydropower in their portfolios were named: Consumers Energy, Duke Energy, Exelon, National Grid USA, Dominion Energy and American Electric Power.

Companies have made considerable progress in their quest for gender parity over the years, Forbes said, enacting strong hiring and retention practices that directly benefit female employees and offering family-friendly policies that place women at the center of these efforts.

The utilities’ rankings, on a list of 300, were:

144 Consumers Energy

274 Duke Energy

277 Exelon

281 National Grid USA

283 Dominion Energy

297 American Electric Power

To complete this list, Forbes collaborated with market research firm Statista, surveying 75,000 Americans, including 45,000 women, working for businesses that employ more than 1,000 workers. The respondents spanned 31 industries, and they were asked to share their opinion on a series of statements about their respective employer’s culture, opportunities for career development, image, working conditions, salary and wages, and diversity.

Employees were surveyed during March and April 2020, just as COVID-19 started to spread across the country, but before the economic impact of the pandemic was truly felt. The responses reflect their feelings at that time.
