Sempra Energy unit finances 155 MW wind power project

Sempra Energy‘s Mexican unit, Infraestructura Energetica Nova SAB (IEnova), has secured a $270 million loan for the first phase of its wind power project.

The 155 MW Energia Sierra Juarez (ESJ) project is located in the municipality of Tecate, Baja California, Mexico.

The project is co-owned by IEnova and InterGen and is the first cross-border wind power project between the U.S. and Mexico.

The project includes 47 units of 3.3-MW Vestas turbines and is expected to reach commercial operations in the first half of 2015.

Power produced will be purchased by Sempra Energy’s unit San Diego Gas and Electric Co. under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
