Scottish Energy Laboratory connects renewable energy facilities

A virtual hub has been created to improve collaboration between Scotland’s low carbon energy development facilities.

Launched by First Minister Alex Salmond, the Scottish Energy Laboratory (SEL) brings together 50 energy research, test and demonstration facilities to strengthen Scotland’s leading position in the low carbon energy industry, a press release states.

The SEL will allow national and international companies to identify the best test and demonstration assets for their technologies. The SEL network has a combined investment value of GBP250 million across all Scotland’s key energy sectors, including Orkney’s European Marine Energy Centre, Fife’s Hydrogen Office and the European Offshore Wind Development Centre in Aberdeen.

The SEL will offer a coherent platform for Scotland’s energy test and demonstration capabilities to companies at home and abroad. Working with individual centers the network will co-ordinate activities and utilize assets more efficiently.

Supported by Scottish Enterprise, Highlands & Island Enterprise, Scottish Development International, the Energy Technology Partnership and the Scottish Government, the SEL will play a key role in the Scottish Government’s low carbon economic strategy.
