Atlanta, Georgia [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] Euromoney’s Annual Renewable Energy Finance Forum (REFF) of London recently named GE Energy as its Technology Supplier of the Year, citing GE’s ecomagination initiative and key renewable energy projects such as the Arklow Offshore Wind Park in Ireland.
In presenting the award, the REFF noted that GE, as part of ecomagination, has pledged to reduce its own greenhouse gas emissions by 1 percent from 2004 levels, while increasing its R&D investment in renewable energy technologies from $750 million to $1.5 billion a year, by 2010. Launched in May, GE ecomagination brings new technologies to market that help customers meet pressing environmental needs, to provide for cleaner and more efficient sources of energy, reduced emissions and abundant sources of clean water. In addition to highlighting the Arklow project, which features seven of GE’s 3.6-MW wind turbines, the REFF also cited the GE Research Center-Europe in Munich, which focuses on developing technology to further increase the reliability and performance of wind turbines, along with new designs for solar power modules and solar applications for water treatment, including desalination and water pumping. Also honored by REFF as entrepreneurial developer of the year was Falck Renewables, which developed the Cefn Croes wind project in Wales, a site featuring 39 GE Energy wind turbines. The REFF is operated by Euromoney Energy Events of London, which co-sponsored the renewable energy awards with Ernst & Young.Renewable Energy Finance Forum Awards GE Energy
