Mexican utility Generadora Fenix has awarded a contract to consulting group Poyry to perform studies and other prefeasibility work for a proposed hydropower project.
Duties covered by the contract included geology, topography and hydrology studies; examinations of regulatory frameworks; identification of main project components; risk identification; preliminary construction procedures; project scheduling; and economic and financial analysis.
“Delivering clean, renewable energy projects like this can aid economic growth and social progress, and help alleviate poverty in developing countries,” said Markku Oksanen, head of hydropower for Poyry.
Further details regarding Generadora Fenix’s proposed hydroelectric plant have not been divulged, though the project is expected to help Mexico reach its federal goal of producing 35% of its power from renewable sources by 2025.
HydroWorld.com reported last month that Poyry had been awarded an extention to an owner’s engineering services contract associated with the Xayaburi project in Laos.
