Able Telcom Holding Corp. has signed an agreement to acquire Georgia Electric Co. (GEC) headquartered in Albany, Ga. GEC, with operations in eight southeastern states, specializes in the installation, testing and maintenance of intelligent highway and communication systems including computerized traffic management systems, wireless and fiber-optic data networks, weather sensors, and voice, data and video systems. GEC also installs and maintains industrial equipment and control systems.

CellNet Data Systems Inc. and ConnexT announced a joint marketing agreement to provide integrated energy information and application services to utilities and their commercial, industrial and residential customers.

Itron and Schlumberger Industries are jointly producing a product to provide wireless AMR compatibility with Schlum- berger`s new METRIS compact residential gas meter. The meter offers features such as a removable measurement module to allow for efficient utility remanufacturing of meters and is available in a variety of configurations including a combination meter/regulator.

Ashtech Inc. and Matsushita Electric Works (Osaka, Japan) have signed a strategic agreement where Ashtech and Matsushita will work together to create GPS products for mass consumption worldwide. As part of the agreement, Matsushita will make a financial investment in Ashtech. Matsushita is a marketshare leader in GPS antennas and receivers for use in car navigation.
