P2 Energy to supply 50 MW of peaking power to Michigan Public Power Agency

EAST HARTFORD, Conn., Sept. 19, 2001 – Michigan Public Power Agency has agreed to purchase one FT8®TWINPACà¢â€ž- industrial gas turbine unit, rated at 50 MW at site conditions, from P2 Energy, the sales, marketing and customer service subsidiary of Pratt & Whitney Power Systems.

Michigan Public Power Agency will install the efficient and environmentally friendly FT8 TWINPAC unit on a site near Traverse City, Michigan. The installation is designed to meet the summer 2003 peak season, providing quick response peaking power. The FT8 TWINPAC unit leads the industry in the ability to start quickly, achieving full load operation in less than five minutes.

Michigan Public Power Agency’s General Manager Gary Zimmerman sees the TWINPAC industrial gas turbine unit as the right product for the Agency. “The proven commercial experience of the unit, its price competitiveness, and P2 Energy’s maintenance support were major factors in our Agency’s choice of the TWINPAC unit.”

We hope that this contract is the first of many with Michigan Public Power Agency,” said Ellen Smith, president of Pratt & Whitney Power Systems. “This extends Pratt & Whitney’s long involvement with American public power agencies, which started in the 1960s when Pratt & Whitney first applied its aviation technology to the industrial power market.”

The FT8 gas turbine is designed and manufactured by Pratt & Whitney Power Systems and is a derivative of Pratt’s JT8D aircraft engine, the most popular jet engine in commercial aviation. The FT8 takes advantage of the technology developed in more than half a billion JT8D engine flight hours to produce power with very low emissions using natural gas fuel. There are over 2000 Pratt & Whitney-designed industrial gas turbines installed around the world, including more than 150 FT8 turbines.

P2 Energy delivers market-focused equipment and services solutions to the energy industry.
