NHPC Limited names Basu as director (projects)

Indian hydropower utility NHPC Limited has named Shri Biswajit Basu as director (projects), effective Jan. 1, 2021.

Previously, Basu held the position of chief general manager, project monitoring and support group division, NHPC. Basu is an electrical engineering graduate from Tripura Engineering College (Now NIT, Agartala). He joined NHPC in 1987 as a trainee engineer (electrical) at the Loktak Power Station.

Basu has worked on various projects during the construction and operation and maintenance stages, NHPC said. The projects where Basu was posted during the construction stage were 60-MW Kurichu in Bhutan, 300-MW Chamera-II in Himachal Pradesh, 2,000-MW Subansiri Lower in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, 4-MW Sippi in Arunachal Pradesh, 66-MW Loktak Down Stream in Manipur, and 2,880-MW Dibang in Arunachal Pradesh. He was also posted in at projects during the O&M stage, such as 105-MW Loktak in Manipur, 60-MW Rangit in Sikkim, 44-MW Chutak in UT of Ladakh, and 280-MW Dhauliganga in Uttarakhand.

During his tenure, Basu worked as head of project at the Chutak Power Station, Loktak Power Station, Dibang Multipurpose Project and Dhauliganga Power Station. During the commissioning of the TLDP — III Power Station, he was the in charge of the commissioning team. Basu was also the chief executive officer of Loktak Downstream Hydroelectric Corporation Limited (LDHCL), a joint venture between NHPC and the government of Manipur.

Basu is a nominee director on the board of Lanco Teesta Hydro Power Limited (LTHPL), a subsidiary of NHPC.

NHPC is the largest organization for hydropower development in India, according to its website, with capabilities to undertake all activities from conceptualization to commissioning. The company has an installed base of 7,071.2 MW from 24 power stations. NHPC is a Mini-Ratna company under the Ministry of Power.
