Malawi seeks engineering for expansion of 64-MW Kapichira

Electricity Supply Corp. of Malawi (Escom) seeks bids for engineering services for the addition of another 64 MW to the 64-MW Kapichira hydroelectric project on the Shire River.

Engineering News reported proposals are due at 2 p.m. December 8 to carry out a feasibility study update, detailed design, cost estimates, procurement, and installation management. Work is to include installation of two 32-MW generating units, transformers, and switchgear, with minimal civil work.

Escom generation unit manager Evans Msiska said request for proposal documents will be provided upon formal request with references, Engineering News said.
