Italy’s CVA commissions rehab of 3.2-MW Bard

Compagnia Valdostana delle Acque has awarded a contract to ATI VA Tech Escher Wyss Srl and Indar Maquinas Electricas SL for rehabilitation of the 3.2-MW Bard hydroelectric project.

Work includes supply of a replacement Kaplan turbine for flows of 45 cubic meters per second, head of 9.4 meters, and 166.67 rpm; a vertical-axis synchronous generator of 4.7-megavolt-amperes; controls; and automation equipment.

VA Tech and Indar Maquinas were chosen from among three bidders to refurbish Bard, which was built in 1941 on the Dora Baltea River in Italy’s Aosta Province.
