Two renewable energy and six watershed projects will receive more than $250,000 in the Pacific northwest region of the United States.
PORTLAND, Oregon, US, 2001-04-24 <SolarAccess.com> The Bonneville Environmental Foundation will award $256,000 from the current grant cycle to projects in the states of Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana. “Our streams and fish runs will be healthier, and the air cleaner, as a result of the good work being done by the programs receiving these grants,” says former Senator Mark Hatfield, chair of the Foundation. The first solar project is a partnership with Eugene Water & Electric Board to provide a mobile photovoltaic system for Willamette High School in Oregon. The second will help the PUD in Chelan County, Washington to build solar capacity for customers that want to buy green power. The BEF was established in 1998 to collect and invest premiums from the sale of green power by arranging the sale of environmentally endorsed renewable energy to utilities and corporations. It funds projects that restore damaged watersheds and create new sources of solar, wind and low-impact hydropower. The Foundation collaborates with, but is independent of the Bonneville Power Administration. “We are happy to have the opportunity to contribute to the region’s success by returning the revenue generated through the sale of our green power products into these grants,” adds Foundation president Angus Duncan.
