Genex Power Limited has appointed power and water consulting firm Entura to be owner’s engineer for the Kidston Stage 2 project in Australia.
This project consists of a 250-MW pumped storage hydro project (K2-Hydro or K2H) and the adjacent 270-MW solar project (K2-Solar or K2S).
Entura is familiar with the project, having managed the K2H Technical Feasibility Study in 2016.
As the owner’s engineer, Entura will undertake detailed design and engineering verification and provide construction and commissioning advice during the project implementation phase, working closely with the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors across both K2S and K2H, Genex says.
The value of the contract was not disclosed.
“We are delighted to appoint Entura as our Owner’s Engineer for the Kidston Stage 2 projects,” said Genex Chief Executive Officer James Harding. “As one of the market leaders in renewables and hydropower, Entura will provide valuable experience and expertise, plus their in-depth project knowledge, to assist with the successful delivery of the project and we look forward to continuing our collaboration as we progress the development of the Kidston Renewable Energy Hub.”
The Kidston Hub is comprised of the operating 50-MW Stage 1 Solar Project (KS1), the 250-MW Pumped Storage Hydro Project (K2H) and the multi-staged integrated Solar Project of up to 270 MW (K2S) under development and the Kidston Stage 3 Wind Project of up to 150 MW under feasibility.
In April 2018, Genex named Andritz its preferred equipment supplier for K2H.
Genex Power is focused on innovative clean energy generation and electricity storage solutions which deliver attractive commercial returns for shareholders. The Company has a development pipeline of up to 770 MW of renewable energy generation and storage projects within its portfolio, underpinned by the Kidston Renewable Energy Hub in far-north Queensland.
