Spanish utility Endesa announced the hydroelectric projects of its Northwest Hydro Production Unit have received environmental management certification reflecting their environmentally friendly status.
The unit operates 21 hydro plants totaling 891 MW in Leon, Zamora, Ourense, A Coruna, Asturias, and Cantabria provinces of Spain.
The UNE-EN ISO 14001:2004 certification was awarded in a June 28 ceremony at Endesa’s Barcena plant in Ponferrada.
Endesa said the award is in line with the certification of its other hydroelectric plants. It said the certification marks the end of an exhaustive inspection of all of Endesa’s hydroelectric facilities in Spain that began in 2005.
