A diver went missing on July 7 while performing an underwater inspection at Consumers Energy’s Calkins Bridge Dam in southeastern Michigan. A dive team from the Allegan County Sheriff, assisted by several other public safety partners, has recovered the man’s body from the Kalamazoo River.
Calkins Bridge Dam impounds Lake Allegan, which provides water for the 2.55-MW Calkins Bridge Hydro Project. The dam was completed by the city of Allegan in 1936, and Consumer Energy acquired it in 1969.
“Our hearts go out to this individual’s family, friends and co-workers during this tragic time. Safety remains our top priority and we will work with local authorities as an investigation regarding the cause of this incident is conducted,” Consumers Energy said in a statement.
No additional information on the incident is available at this time.
