Enel North America, which operates through renewable energy companies Enel Green Power North America and Enel X North America, announced a commitment to provide 1.3 million USD to support 75 local organizations across the U.S. and Canada in response to COVID-19.
The company will focus on needs of the local and rural communities in which its businesses operate. The company aims to help organizations and frontline workers who are experiencing a critical shortage of essential resources.
The response will address immediate health and social services needs and long-term socioeconomic impacts on organizations, including:
- Community, rural and not-for-profit hospitals to help fund necessary equipment and supplies, including PPE;
- First responders, including rural, volunteer fire districts and EMTs, to supplement funding shortages and improve capacity to respond to health and other emergency situations;
- Regional and local food banks and food pantries to address food insecurity for the most vulnerable populations;
- Social services to provide aid and critical support for senior citizens; and
- Local schools to support free meals to children and technology upgrades for remote learning.
In addition, Enel North America has enhanced its safety measures and implemented social distancing across its 80+ renewable energy power plants. This restructuring will help ensure continued electricity to areas of operation.
