The Hydro Research Foundation is asking hydro professionals to let graduate-level students know that the deadline is approaching for Hydro Research Foundation Hydro Fellowship Program applications. The deadline for applications is April 9, 2010.
The U.S. Department of Energy awarded a 3-year, $3 million grant to the Hydro Research Foundation (HRF) for establishing and awarding 25 hydro fellowships to graduate-level students. Students who are U.S. citizens and who will complete their master’s degree by June 2012 or their doctorate’s degree by June 2013 are eligible to apply. Applications will be accepted from students who will be conducting research directly related to hydropower.
“This new program is a wonderful opportunity for the hydropower industry to reach out to the academic world to bring exciting new research into our mainstream business,” HRF Executive Director Linda Church Ciocci told HydroWorld.com.
Deborah Linke, director of the Hydro Fellowship Program, said: “As we select our new Hydro Fellows, we will be looking for industry mentors to partner with each Fellow. This will allow us to work with the Fellows and their mentors to identify career opportunities as they transition from their research work.”

The grant is part of the Advanced Waterpower series of grants within the Department of Energy. The Hydro Fellowship Program will stimulate new student research and academic interest in research and careers in conventional or pumped-storage hydropower.
Hydro Research Foundation Fellows will be awarded two years of support for applied research in the field of hydropower.
