French-based engineering firm Cegelec has created a Brazilian renewable energy subsidiary, Cegelec Renewable, which has formed a strategic partnership with Brazilian hydropower engineer Energ Power.
Cegelec, which has been present in Brazil since 1974 with subsidiary Cegelec Ltda., said Cegelec Renewable will contribute to the development of its group in the field of renewable energy.
The strategic partnership is to permit Energ Power to strengthen its position in the renewable energy market. It is to come into force in the coming weeks pending administrative formalities, Cegelec said.
Cegelec, which has 25,000 employees in 30 countries, added that it has an option to take control of Energ Power by early 2010.
Energ Power has 500 employees and 12 engineering-procurement-construction contracts in execution. Among Brazilian hydro projects in which it is involved are 82-MW Passo Sao Joao on the Ijui River (HNN 8/21/08), 21-MW Nova Aurora and 28-MW Goiandira on the Verissimo River (HNN 10/24/07), 93.6-MW Corumba 3 on the Corumba River (HNN 7/17/07), and 73-MW Quilleco on the Rucue and Laja rivers.
