EV chargers are convenient when there’s room for them. But what about in places like dense city streets with side parking, where space is constrained, and people still need to charge their vehicles? One startup hailing from Australia believes it has a solution.
EVX, a participant in this year’s DTECH Initiate program, produces pole-mounted EV chargers meant to have reduced impact on the local landscape, and argues its product is most suited for parallel street parking, particularly in residential areas where users may not have access to off-street parking or power capacity in their apartment complex for EV charging.
“EVX specifically manufactures utility integrated, pole mounted EV charging stations,” said Andrew Forster, CEO of EVX Australia. “We are the market leaders in Australia and have received millions in government innovation funding to build out our managed charging and DERMS integrations for utility interoperability.”
EVX developed the EVX Polecharger from the ground up to meet the challenges utilities providers and local governments face in rolling out EV charging infrastructure sustainably while adhering to local electrical and planning regulations.
The EVX Polecharger solution suits parallel street parking, the startup said, particularly in residential areas where users may not have access to off-street parking or power capacity in their apartment complex for EV charging. The solution utilizes existing utility poles, and EVX argues its partnerships with Australian utilities providers allow it to select sites in conjunction with councils without major impact to the local landscape.
At DTECH, EVX is looking forward to “the chance to discuss pilots and innovation in bringing public EV charging infrastructure to those who cannot access at home charging” with industry peers and professionals.
