Vietnam Hydroelectric Plant Ahead of Plans

December 30, 2003 [] Construction of Son La hydroelectricity plant will power ahead a year earlier than planned, the general director of the Hanoi, Vietnam-based Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) said. Dao Van Hung said EVN could earn US$540 million for the extra year if work started on Vietnam’s biggest hydroelectric plant in early 2005. Hung said the corporation was heeding Prime Minister Phan Van Khai’s recent call to build more power plants, and had submitted a feasibility plan for government approval. The government calculated the plant would cost up to US$2.5 billion to build.
