Utility Sweetens Green Energy Option

The Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) and Arden Fair Mall have partnered to help SMUD customers bring joy to the world with cleaner electricity and cheer to the pocketbook.

Sacramento, California – December 18, 2002 [SolarAccess.com] Customers who sign up for SMUD’s Greenergy program for at least six months receive a US$15 Arden Fair gift certificate and four free valet parking passes. For just US$6 or US$3 more per month added to their electric bill, SMUD will match 100 percent or 50 percent of a customer’s electric needs with power from renewable fuels such as landfill gas, wind and small hydroelectric. In an effort to support Renewable Energy, SMUD has committed to match 40 percent of the revenues it receives from Greenergy price premiums and invest that money into new sources of renewable power generation. Since July of 1997, thousands of SMUD customers have made the choice to join SMUD’s Greenergy program. The program now boasts over 18,000 participants and has received national recognition through the Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). An NREL study ranks SMUD’s Greenergy program third in the nation for the number of customers enrolled. SMUD’s Greenergy program is certified by the independent Center for Resource Solutions as having 100 percent Renewable Energy content and is purchased expressly for Greenergy. The 100 Percent Option is also recognized as environmentally preferred by the Natural Resource Defense Council. Customers can sign-up for the special Greenergy offer by either stopping in at Arden Fair or by on SMUD’s Web site.
