UK Conference on Wave and Tidal Power

November 25, 2003 [] The British Wind Energy Association (BWEA) and Regen SW, the renewable energy agency for the South West of England, announced details of a new national conference on wave and tidal power. “Making it Happen” will take place in Bristol on February 11th 2004 with presentations from key figures in government and industry. Confirmed speakers include Energy Minister Stephen Timms MP, Tom Delay, Chief Executive of the Carbon Trust, Stephen Tindale, Executive Director of Greenpeace UK and a representative of the Weir group/ Scottish & Southern consortium which is investing ý10 million ($US 17.2 million) in wave and tidal technology. There is wide agreement that marine renewable technology is in the position that wind power was several years ago, and that it is likely to experience the same rapid growth over the next few years, according to BWEA. This event will establish the platform which will allow industry players to share experiences and learn from the lessons of the wind sector and its move offshore.
