U.S. Spot Ethanol Assessment Launched

June 11, 2003 [SolarAccess.com] Platts introduced the first spot ethanol assessment in the U.S. to appear in a daily newsletter. The daily assessment will be helpful for those who track the growing market for this corn-based substitute and will bring a new level of clarity to pricing. The new Platts ethanol price is based on numbers formulated in Chicago, a key national refining center and a major distribution hub for ethanol and gasoline. While wholesale ‘rack’ numbers have long been available, those in the market know that a spot market is always the ultimate price benchmark according to Robert Sharp, Platts director of downstream Operations.
