U.S. Forest Service Becomes Biomass Supplier

[RenewableEnergyAccess.com] Federal forest thinning programs have found a buyer for their by-product. Green Energy Resources considers the timber cut by the U.S. Forest Service during forest fire mitigation efforts as environmentally friendly certified wood. Green Energy Resources sells biomass to the renewable energy market, and recognition of the US Forest Service plan is a first for the industry, according to the company. For green energy to be successful and have real global impact requires an effective, and achievable application to existing industry conditions, Green Energy stated in a press release. Co-firing meets and exceeds U.S. Federal EPA air quality standards and the international Kyoto treaty. Co-firing allows utilities to qualify for renewable energy certificates (RECs) and for large-scale emission trading as sellers.
