Texas Land Office to Hold First Geothermal Lease Sale

Austin, Texas [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] The Texas General Land Office is considering the state’s first-ever lease sale for geothermal energy. More than 11,000 acres of state-owned submerged land in seven counties are available for geothermal energy production. The geothermal lease sale will take place as part of the regular winter oil and gas lease sale held by the School Land Board. Last year, the Land Office earned more than $90 million for the Permanent School Fund from lease sales alone, including a record bid of more than $6.3 million for the right to explore a 720-acre area in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Jefferson County.
