SUEZ Energy Establishes Renewable Energy Business Division

SUEZ Energy North America yesterday announced that it has established a new division focused on renewable energy development following the completion of the acquisition of the Canadian wind power development company, Ventus Energy Inc. late last week.

The Ventus employees will lead wind generation development projects for SUEZ Energy as part of the newly established division SUEZ Renewable Energy NA (SRENA).

SRENA will also spearhead development of biomass, hydro, and solar energy projects in North America for the company.

“SUEZ Energy welcomes the Ventus employees and looks forward to leveraging their wind development expertise to increase our presence within the renewable energy market in Canada and to expand our company’s wind development into the United States,” said Zin Smati, president and CEO, SUEZ Energy North America. “Renewable energy is a cornerstone of our future.”

In addition to its interests in wind and other renewable energy development, at present, SUEZ Energy is North America’s third largest player in the biomass market segment of generating electricity from wood chips. The company also operates a hydro power plant in Vermont. All of these activities will now be developed and managed through the newly created Renewable Energy division.
