Students Trip 6000 Miles on Biofuel

August 11, 2003 [] Thirteen students from Middlebury College in Vermont rode over 6,000 miles from Vermont to the State of Washington in a school bus fueled only by used vegetable oil from restaurants and cafeterias. The students relied on a how-to manual for using vegetable oil as a fuel and stopped at any restaurant producing grease to solicit donations. After the students completed their 26-day trip they put the bus up for auction on eBay. The Hot Buttered Rum String Band purchased the bus and will now use the vehicle, along with its vegetable oil fuel, for touring.
