Sri Lankan Hydropower Project to Begin

April 30, 2002 [SolarAccess.com] Sri Lanka will begin a giant hydro power project in the central Upper Kotmale area in May, according to a state-owned newspaper. The Japanese-funded project, which is expected to add 150 MW of power to the national grid, will cost about US$336 million. Government officials have assured the local residents who will be affected by the project that they will be given housing and job opportunities.
