Small Hydro Powering Rural China

2002-03-18 [] Small hydro-electric power stations are providing electricity to 91 percent of rural households and helping to conserve forest areas in southwest China’s Yunnan Province. The province, which is rich in water resources, has built 2,090 small and medium-sized power stations with a combined capacity of 2.83 million kW, generating 11.2 billion kWh of electricity annually and accounting for 35 percent of the total provincial energy production.
