Project Bio-Bus Embarks

May 29, 2003 [] Project Bio-Bus, developed by the Bio-diesel Club of Middlebury College, will be both a demonstration proto-type and a mobile laboratory for alternative energy sources. As a demonstration prototype, the thirty-five-passenger diesel school bus – retrofitted to accommodate either vegetable oil or pure bio-diesel energy sources – will tour United States climbing sites and spectator events for three and a half weeks from the third week of May through the second week of July. The anticipated route will include stops at Red River gorge, KY, Chicago, IL, Fort Collins, Colorado, Maple Canyon, Utah and Smith Rock, Oregon before ending at NOLS base camp, Conway, WA. As a mobile laboratory the development and touring team will operate and monitor the vegetable oil operation for aspects of fuel quality, fuel sourcing, range, acceleration, emissions, and long-range feasibility. Project Bio-Bus will be fully documented. Progress reports will be posted to the website below.
