New Pennsylvania Governor Pushed Green Power

December 30, 2003 [] Among the accomplishments of his first year on the job, Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell lists his office’s initiation of innovative energy policies that created jobs as one of his administration’s biggest achievements. The Rendell Administration reported that over the past year, it successfully launched Pennsylvania’s first grant program to finance the implementation of clean and renewable energy technologies, such as biomass, solar power, wind power and other sources that will improve air quality, preserve land and protect watersheds. The Pennsylvania Office of the Governor reported that this program has already attracted 139 applications from businesses seeking US$45 million for innovative private-sector energy and job-creation enterprises. Rendell’s office reported that for every dollar of state funding, at least one dollar in new private sector investment would be brought into the state. Successful projects will be announced in early February.
