New Hydro Plant Planned in Italy

Andritz VA Tech Hydro has announced that it will supply its StrafloMatrix mini-hydroplant technology to a development for Italian Consorzio Canale Industriale Giulio Camuzzoni.

The 1.23 megawatt (MW) plant will be installed by Andritz in a former ship-lock on the Chievo Dam on the Adige River north of Verona, Italy. Start-up is scheduled to take place in June 2009.

The installation, the first of its kind in Europe outside Austria, consists of five turbine-generator units. The integrated turbine runner-generator rotor design allows the turbine runner to support the generator rotor, so that both both turn under flow as a single unit. The resulting smaller design is advantageous when space is limited.
