National Integrated Resource Plan Under Review

Eastern Cape, South Africa [Engineering News] In light of the growing international trend towards renewable energy as a contributor to future energy needs, South Africa’s National Energy Regulator (Nersa) will include a least-cost renewable energy scenario in its upcoming national integrated resource plan (NIRP). This will be a more credible renewable-energy scenario than the one included in the previous NIRP, NIRP2. Nersa’s senior manager for energy infrastructure and operations Bianka Belinska says the organisation is working closely with the Department of Minerals and Energy’s (DME’s) renewable energy department to establish a renewable-energy scenario that will address government targets. …
