Montana Receives $72 M for Renewable Wind Power

Billings, Montana [Great Falls Tribune] More than $72 million in zero-interest loans will help finance 34 new wind energy projects in Montana, including construction of four wind turbines at a proposed coal-fired plant east of Great Falls, U.S. Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., said Friday. IRS-approved Clean Energy Renewable Bonds, or CREBs, will allow 32 cities and counties, plus two electric cooperatives, to build wind facilities in northeastern and southeastern Montana. … Baucus said he came up with the idea for the bond program and had it included in the Energy Tax Incentives Act of 2005. … Nationwide, 610 projects qualified for a total of $800 million in financing. Qualifying projects included wind, solar, biomass and some irrigation and hydropower facilities.
