[RenewableEnergyAccess.com] An organizational meeting of the Maryland Renewable Fuels Incentive Board will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, in the lower level conference room at the Maryland Department of Agriculture, 50 Harry S. Truman Pkwy, Annapolis, MD. The Board was established by the Renewable Fuels Promotion Act of 2005(SB740), which was passed by the General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr., on May 10, 2005. The Act was designed to attract investment in the bio-fuels industry in Maryland and to encourage the use of local soybeans to produce biodiesel and small grains, such as barley, to make ethanol. The Board is charged with reviewing applications from prospective biofuels producers and certifying those deemed to meet the program requirements and objectives. Members include the secretaries of Agriculture, Business and Economic Development, and Environment as well as the director of the Maryland Energy Administration or their designees. The agenda of the first meeting will be to discuss procedures for carrying out the Board’s charge and to learn more about the biofuels industry. For further information about the meeting, please call Bettie McCaffrey or Patrick McMillan at the Maryland Department of Agriculture at 410-841-5782, Sue duPont at 410-841-5889, or Kate Wagner at 410-841-5888.
