Lurgi Sets Up Biodiesel Project in Germany

[] Lurgi AG, a subsidiary of the GEA Group, will implement a biodiesel project in Piesteritz, Eastern Germany. The order is worth USD$ 75 million and was awarded by Neckermann-Renewables GmbH of Wuerzburg, Germany. The new plant will use rapeseed to produce more than 200,000 tons of biodiesel per year and is due to come on stream in December 2006. The plant will provide an end-to-end production process — from the introduction of the seed and its processing to the prepressing and extraction stages and then the processing of crude oil and the production of biodiesel. Lurgi will supply equipment and materials, commission the plant and train staff.
