Hydropower Association Lauds Energy Bill

November 18, 2003 [SolarAccess.com] The National Hydropower Association (NHA) commended Senator Pete V. Domenici (R-NM) and Congressman Billy Tauzin (R-LA) for releasing proposed final conference report language on comprehensive energy legislation that recognizes the importance of the nation’s hydropower resource by significantly reforming the long-broken hydropower licensing process and providing incentives to maximize the nation’s existing hydropower infrastructure. The organization said,” the legislation will substantially improve the way non-federal hydropower projects are licensed while ensuring that important environmental protections remain intact,” and, “the bill also wisely recognizes that there is a great deal of untapped hydropower capacity in the United States and provides incentives for its development.
