Hydro to the Tocantins River

July 16, 2002 [SolarAccess.com] Companhia Vale do Rio Doce announced that the Consorcio Estreito Energia has won a public concession to build and explore the Estreito hydroelectric power plant. This is a 35-year concession and the power plant must be operating for a maximum of 72 months after the contract signature. The Estreito hydroelectric power plant will be located at the Tocantins river in the municipality of Estreito, in the state of Maranhao, bordering the municipalities of Aguiarnopolis and Palmeiras do Tocantins and will have an installed capacity of 1,087 MW.
