Group: Brunswick Naval Base Suited for Renewable Energy

Brunswick, Maine [Portland Press Herald / Maine Sunday Telegram] The group devising a reuse plan for the Brunswick Naval Air Station said Tuesday [May 22] that it plans to pursue renewable-energy facilities for the base, including a power plant and research capabilities. … Hayes Gahagan, who is involved with the Loring BioEnergy project at the former Loring Air Force Base in Aroostook County, said the plant will produce energy from renewable resources, offering discounted rates to Loring Commerce Center tenants. … Joe Bandy, an associate professor at Bowdoin College, said some of his students concluded that the base would be suited for a biomass facility or hydrogen research center.
